Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
When you enter a name, a case number, or a date into a search tool on this site, that entry goes to the outside provider that runs the search. The provider processes the query and returns the result. We do not keep a log of the terms you type.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you send an email to this site, we keep the message so that we can answer it. It stays with our team, and we do not pass it along unless the law requires it.
Data We Gather Automatically
Each time a page here loads, our servers record a few technical details about the visit:
- The IP address that your device used
- The browser you are running and its version
- The type of device and the operating system
- Which pages you opened and how long you stayed
- The site that referred you here, when there is one
- A time stamp for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
This site uses cookies. A cookie is a small file placed on your device that helps us see how visitors move through the site, including which pages draw the most attention and where people leave. Analytics services help us combine that traffic into aggregate numbers. You can block cookies through your browser settings, though a few parts of the site may behave differently if you do.
What We Do With This Data
We put the limited information we hold to a few ordinary purposes:
- Keep the site online and loading at a reasonable speed
- Send a search request to the partner that handles it
- Learn which pages readers find useful and which need work
- Find and repair technical problems
- Serve advertising that may relate to your interests
No Warrant Data on File
This site does not host, compile, maintain, or sell a database of warrants or personal warrant records. We publish general guidance about where Steele County warrant records are held and how to check them through the Steele County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota District Court, and Minnesota Court Records Online. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and nothing we collect about visitors is turned into a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
The search boxes on this site belong to outside companies. Whatever you type into one of those tools is handled under that partner's privacy policy rather than this one. Those partners decide how long they keep data and whether they share it, and we have no control over those choices. Read the partner's policy before you submit a search.
Links to Other Websites
This site links to pages run by the Steele County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota Judicial Branch, Minnesota Court Records Online, state statute sources, and outside search tools. Following one of those links takes you away from this site, and the destination's own privacy policy then applies. Read it before you share personal details.
Some advertising partners may track activity across sites to select the ads they show. That tracking runs on their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. A limited set of information may reach:
- Search partners that handle a query you run here
- Analytics services that measure traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place advertising on these pages
- A court or law-enforcement body when a valid legal order requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
We follow ordinary security practices to protect the information we hold. No site connected to the internet can promise perfect safety, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur. We work to keep the data we do hold secure and to limit how much of it we keep.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Minnesota does not have a single general consumer privacy statute in the way a few other states do, and this private site is not governed by the state's open-records law. The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minn. Stat. chapter 13, is the law that controls how a government office responds to a request for government data, and that law applies to the offices this site points to rather than to this site. As a matter of our own practice, you may ask us to:
- Show you what we hold about you
- Correct information that is wrong
- Delete your data
- Stop a particular kind of processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may change as the site changes. When it does, the revised text appears on this page with a new effective date. Check back if you want to follow how visitor information is handled.
